Because Diamond and CBN tools exceed the hardness of conventional abrasives, Corundum and Silicium carbide, they are often called “super hard abrasives“. They distinguish themselves through outstanding durability, profile holding, quick cutting times, low grinding temperatures and a constant quality level over a large number of work pieces.
Diamond however, is not applicable for working steel due to chemical reaction between the iron in the steel and the carbon in the diamond, which leads to a lower durability in the diamond tool. Instead CBN, which is nearly as hard as diamond, is used for working high-speed steel, tool steel, case hardened steel, ball bearing steel and chrome steel.
Diamond tools are suitable for: Carbide (sintered, green body), glass, ceramic, porcelain, ferrite, Silicium, graphite, natural and artificial stones, Duroplasts, etc.Krueckemeyer stocks Diamond and CBN tools with galvanic bond (single layer of abrasive on a backing), resin bond (abrasive layer consists of grains, bonding and filler material) and ceramic bond (abrasive layer consists of rains, bonding and pores)
